The Skinny – Make Your Own Crepe Winterfest Event!

Skinnypancake_banner.1
Howdy Folks,

winterfestevery year, we find ourselves rubber-necking on the highway of life as we realize that International Crepe Day has just eluded our grasp yet again…not this year, folks. This year we saw it coming & we planned ahead. Please join us this Saturday February 2nd: in celebration of ‘The Day of the Crepes’, or ‘Candlemas’, The Skinny Pancake will be teaching weary Penguin Plungers and others how to pour, spin and fold their own Crepes! This event will take place from 11am-3pm, be outdoors on our waterfront patio in Burlington and free to the public. We will have a limited menu of our ‘Sweet and Savory’ Crepes available for supervised spinning where the ‘Crepemaster’ may enjoy their creation. Beyond a sense of self-fulfillment & a free crepe, participants will be rewarded with a certificate of awesomeness free of charge upon completion! Of course, just inside we will still be offering our full menu including hot cocoa, warm cider and other beverages inside as usual. So come on out & celebrate Winterfest and International Crepe Day with The Skinny Pancake! To find our more, visit our friends at Findandgoseak.net or call us at 802-540-0188.

MENU PROJECT Specials this week!

Soooo…it has been about two years since our last major menu overhaul & its time for a change. Rather than do it behind closed doors, WE WANT YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROCESS.

Here’s the scoop:

turkeyspecWe’ve built a great team of cooks, crepe artists & committed contributors to the crepe-o-sphere. And they’re all a-bubblin’ with ideas. We have FIVE teams of eager & experienced crepe monsters that have been challenged to come up with pure greatness in the form of a special each week. These teams will submit their ideas to Montpelier GM, CIA-trained Chef & super-taster Jeremy Silansky. We are looking for items that pop with flavor, use lots of local foods while staying fairly affordable. Jeremy will select two or more to feature for the week as specials. For the next 10 weeks, the specials we run could end up on our new menu in May.

faffleHere’s where you come in: we are looking for crepe connoisseurs of Vermont to contribute their feedback on each item we present. We will have crepe-cards at the counter in both Burlington & Montpelier asking you to tell us what you think of the special each week based on flavor, appearance, value & overall. If you try 5 specials over the next 10 weeks and leave us your feedback, we will invite you to a tasting in April of the most popular items. At the April tasting, we’ll serve up each dish and talk to the group about your thoughts on it. And to thank these most committed crepe contributors, we’ll send each person at the tasting away with a $30 gift certificate and a Skinny Pancake t-shirt!

This weeks candidates:
Shepherds Pie Crepe (Montpelier) – Boyden Farm beef with potatoes, carrots and celeriac from Pete’s Greens and organic peas. Wrapped in a Gleason’s whole wheat crepe. Served with a side of organic greens.

Patrick Fitzsimmons
LOCATION: Burlington, VT

http://www.patrickfitzsimmons.net/

Patrick has just released “Hope Is”, his sixth CD and first on Malletts Bay Records. The title is directly inspired by the Emily Dickinson poem, “Hope Is the Thing With Feathers” but the album’s emotional content is grounded in powerful real life events. This CD is the Vermont based songwriter’s definitive statement after a victorious battle with cancer. Fitzsimmons started working on the songs for “Hope Is” back in the winter of 2011. Creatively blocked, he forced himself to write a song per day for a week via Skype for his west-coast girlfriend, calling them “Skype Dates”. The songs found their way to the album. The buoyant drive of the album marks a compositional breakthrough for the critically acclaimed songwriter who has been called “one of the most captivating songwriters around today” by Relix Magazine. John Platt of WFUV radio said, “Patrick has such a melodic gift and crystal clear voice…a singer-songwriter of the first rank”.

Fitzsimmons is a 2011 and 2012 Solarfest national songwriting contest finalist and a three time Ploughshares national songwriting contest finalist and has had his songs placed in several independent films. Patrick’s last CD, So Beautiful So Blue, made several Best of 2008 lists and was played on radio stations all over the country.

Patrick has shared the stage with some of the acoustic music scene’s biggest names including Shawn Colvin, Dar Williams, Roger McGuinn, Ellis Paul and Vance Gilbert. Fitzsimmons continues to tour throughout the northeast building his large and loyal following with soulful, captivating performances.

As a young boy, Patrick loved the singer-songwriters of the ’70’s, drawn to the works of such artists as Cat Stevens, Paul Simon & James Taylor. Though his first instrument was the drums, he eventually came full circle to follow the path of his childhood heroes. In high school in Sparta, New Jersey, he and two classmates formed a band that would ultimately become From Good Homes, a folk/rock band signed to RCA Records in the mid ‘90’s. FGH recorded three CDs with RCA and toured the country, sharing the stage with Bob Dylan, Dave Mathews Band, Joan Osborne and many others. In 1999 the band broke up and Patrick moved to Vermont and began his solo career.
