Giving Back this Thanksgiving with The Skinny Pancake

A wooden bridge on the Appalachian hiking trail in Vermont.

At The Skinny Pancake, we believe in great food, locally sourced ingredients, and giving back to our communities. There’s no better time than Thanksgiving to celebrate the importance of giving back. When you enjoy our handcrafted crêpes, you aren’t just making a delicious choice—you’re also making a choice that gives back to charitable organizations in our area.

Our Mission

At The Skinny Pancake, we understand the impact of the power of voting with our dollars, and we make a point to pour or supply budget into the local economy as often as possible.

We believe in setting BHAGs— Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals—that allow us to give back. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we organized a program called ShiftMeals, which eventually led to Vermont’s Everyone Eats program. Since it’s inception in September 2020, Everyone Eats has provided more than 3 million free meals to people in need. This program is sustained by state funds, allowing restaurant owners to profit and people in need to get a hot meal.

Crêpes for a Cause

Each month, the Skinny Pancake team chooses a charitable organization to which we donate 1% of our total sales. We’re so proud of New England’s efforts to support the efforts area charities are making to create a difference in our communities.

Some of the organizations we’ve supported recently include:

  • Vermont Public Interest Research Group
  • Mill Brook Preserve
  • Protect Our Winters
  • Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont
  • Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports
  • Local Motion
  • Stowe Trails Partnership

We’re excited to see what opportunities 2025 presents to allow us to give back locally! If you’re a part of a charitable organization interested in partnering with Crêpes for a Cause, we’d love to chat with you! Click here to tell us more about your organization and how we can help.

Why Giving Back Is Good for You

You know that giving back feels great, but it can be tough to pinpoint why it’s so fulfilling to help others. In many cases, empathy is at the core of the decision to give back. Helping others allows us to create meaningful connections both on micro and macro scales. Connecting with others who need our help can create a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction that encourages you to continue doing good works.

Our bodies are hard-wired to help. Much like the endorphin rush known as a “runner’s high,” helping others can provide a sense of euphoria, providing the brain with a reward for building social connections.

Helping others can release neurotransmitters like dopamine and oxytocin. Both of these naturally occurring chemicals are associated with happiness and bonding. Giving creates a sense of happiness and well-being, and once you get hooked on helping others, it’s likely that you’ll keep coming back for more.

Connection in Today’s Increasingly Digital World

These days, everyone has a phone in their hand, and it can be tough to form genuine social connections that stand the test of time. When you volunteer or otherwise give back to your community, you’re reminded that people are more than just faces behind your company’s latest Teams meeting.

Whether you choose to give back by volunteering your time or donating financially, supporting local charities and people in need brings you closer to others. In addition to connecting with the people you’re helping directly, you’ll also get to connect with other people who have similar goals and values, allowing you to get to know people in your community outside of interacting through a social media platform.
